{Real Wedding}: Katy + Cooper

by Emily Grace
Katy and Cooper’s spring wedding was full of so many fabulous and handmade details. To put it most simply, it was a relaxing picnic that they had the chance to enjoy with about 200 of their closest friends and family. Their wedding was an eclectic mix of borrowed items, custom made details, help from the most amazing friends and family, and lots of purchases on Etsy. Katy even had special handkerchiefs embroidered for the moms and had them placed on the seats for the ceremony and served as a heartfelt surprise as they took their places.

Everything about this wedding just makes you want to swoon. From the amazing love story of the couple (they met in pre-school!) to the flawless execution of every meaningful detail that made the day absolutely perfect. The wedding was held at the groom’s parents house on Lake Weir and the driveway was transformed into a stunning dining room under the stars and the beach was the perfect setting for bonfires (complete with s’mores) and dancing. The magical evening drew to a close with a sparkler exit and Katy and Cooper cruising away in a vintage Woodie. Perfection!

Thank you again Katy and Cooper for not only allowing me to be a part of your incredibly special day, but to help bring your beautiful vision to life. I wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness.

So many thanks to the awesome team of vendors that made this day happen.

{Sweet Details}: Bunting

by Emily Grace

I’ve been finding myself totally obsessed lately. Obsessed with fun details, and the obsession isn’t ceasing.

Bunting is something that has caught my eye for some time now. It’s been used in so many clever way and has come far beyond the tacky plastic draping over car dealerships. The fun vibrant fabrics are a great way to add a pop of color to your event or to share a sweet message.

Bunting Invite Printables (**and they’re FREE) (…sorry guys, this deal is no longer valid, please check out the free bunting printable invitations provided by The Wedding Chicks.)

There are so many creative uses for bunting. What a wonderful decor item that is simple to incorporate into your event in a variety of ways.

What are your favorite uses of bunting?

{Sweet Details}: Photo Props II

by Emily Grace

Here I go again about the sweet little detail of photo props. Using props in a photo session is a purely genius idea especially for those who tend to be camera shy. Whether it be engagement photos, wedding portraits, holiday card photos, or even headshots, props are a great way to loosen up, have fun, and flash a REAL winning smile.

Abduzeedo Daily Inspiration

I know I always feel extremely awkward taking photos, and this is something that has helped me tremendously. I’ve gone this route in my Christmas cards for the past two years, and I would absolutely love to have a fun head shot done in this manner (don’t you just love this one of Amy Poehler)! Throw some confetti in the air, hold up a special message out of Scrabble letters, use a fun disguise, hold a delicious looking cupcake, but most of all, be yourself.

I’m not necessarily encouraging you to hide your face behind balloons, but allow your fun personality shine through. Not all of us are lucky enough to be incredibly photogenic, perhaps a few of these fun ideas will help put you at ease and leave you with not only stunning pictures, but pictures that truly represent you!

Happy New Year!

by Emily Grace

I love this! I found this a few weeks ago in a post on The Knotty Bride, and loved what it said. It got me thinking about the new year and what I’m hoping to accomplish both personally and professionally. This is my year! I want to work my hardest to be the best version of me possible. I WILL make things happen this year. I WILL live life to the fullest. I WILL bask in every moment, both good and bad. I WILL remember to stop and be still. I WILL follow my passion.

Now, someone just help me…

Happy New Year! What do you want to accomplish this year?

Be Awesome.

by Emily Grace

Be Awesome! That’s it. How incredibly simple.

I’ve been really down lately and for no apparent reason. Maybe its been the frustration of late nights at work to come home and work for several more hours. Maybe its the overwhelming nature of the holiday season and the feeling of never having enough time to actually get everything done. Not too sure, but I’m hopeful that the funk will pass soon.

Here’s a fun little picture that picked up my spirits today. Hope it will inspire you to forget about being sad, and just be awesome!

{Inspiration}: Rustic Christmas

by Emily Grace

I love Christmas and winter and all things cold. Maybe this is because I live in Florida and we don’t get real “cold” very often, but we have it now, and it excites me! With the approaching holidays and this love for the current chilly weather (I’ll be over it in a week or so) I decided to pull together some fitting inspiration for this time of year. Whether its for a winter wedding or a Christmas party or just a time to hang out and relax with friends,  these images make you just want to bundle up and grab the nearest blanket and crowd around a fire with some of your closest friends.

Table Settings from Real Simple, Cranberry Bag Table Numbers found on A Little White Mouse , Jingle Bells from Country Living

Wood Log Cake Stand from Once Wed, S’mores Treat Bag from Wish Special Events, Happy Guests by Fire from Project Wedding

What do I love the most about this? So much of it is DIY! Definitely look at the projects for the invitation, table settings, and the cake stand. Also, how simple is it to throw together a treat bag with all the fixing for s’mores and head outside around a fire. Place benches, chairs, or hay bales around the fire, grab a nice warm flannel blanket, and enjoy!

Hope everyone is enjoying this joyous holiday season, and most of all, staying warm!

{Inspirational Quotes}: Overcoming Fears

by Emily Grace

Fear. Failure. Uncertainty.

Things that are currently fueling me and holding me back at the same time. I’m in the midst of doing, creating, and making things happen, but with all this comes the crazy mounting fear of failure that consumes me at every turn. I’m working so hard to not let my fears hold me back.

I like this quote because it reminds me that failure isn’t the worst thing because out of failure comes even greater success. Maybe today’s idea isn’t the most creative and innovative, but perhaps tomorrow’s will bring me one step further.

Big Moves!

by Emily Grace

So much has happened since I last posted. I apologize for the blogging hiatus, but I’ve been busy with an extended project that will hopefully come completely to life before the end of the year.

Things that have change since my last post…

I have made the big move from NYC to Winter Park, FL where I’m now working hard styling and designing events here in Florida as well as providing an online shopping portal to purchase the handmade decor items that I create for your very own event. Emily Grace Design is providing me great inspiration and I could have never imagined that these things would come together so quickly. Check out Emily Grace Design Shop on Etsy and on Zazzle and keep your eyes open for the official web launch in the upcoming weeks.

Check out some of the projects I’ve been working on!

{Holidays}: The most amazing woman I know!

by Emily Grace

Why my mom is the most amazing woman:

She lets us lick the beaters of the mixer (unless it was mashed potatoes), and she even turned the mixer off first. (Thanks greeting card writers, you are genius!)

When she took 2 years off work, she perfected chocolate chocolate chip cookies for us, and on the days she didn’t make cookies, she cooked cinnamon on the stove so the house smelled like she cooked something yummy.

She throws the best themed birthday parties—complete with craft projects! Think cow party with spotted t-shirts and homemade ice cream activity or handmade Queen of Hearts invitations for Alice in Wonderland.

No matter how many annoying students she had to deal with that day at work, she would still help us with our math homework or read our books out loud to us while we were hanging upside down or falling asleep in her lap.

She makes the BEST sports video montages!

She learned to text message when I was in college so that I had no excuse to not talk to her.

She never hogs all the strawberries or raw cookie dough to herself, but is always willing to share with my sisters and me.

She never tells me that I shouldn’t buy another pair of jeans because she realizes how incredibly practical they are.

Mom would always let us take turns with our head on her lap so she would play with our hair or tickle our back, no matter how old we were.

No matter how early it is in the morning, she’s still willing to give me a wake up call for catching a cab to the airport or getting out of bed to go to the gym. (Unless its her spring break.)

She sends the world’s greatest care packages in my opinion, and the world’s weirdest packages in the opinions of my friends.

She knows all of my favorite kinds of candy, and knows its ok to spoil me with them.

She’ll still watch movies with us, even though she knows that she’ll fall asleep after the first 30 minutes.

She learned how to french braid hair at the softball field because that’s how I wanted to wear my hair in my games.

My mom makes the BEST homemade icing.

She supports me no matter what random goal I’ve decided to set my sites on… this week.

My mom is great for more reasons that I can ever list. She is the person I turn to with the most exciting news in the world or when I feel like the world is against me. She has inspired me to follow my dreams and pushed me to become someone that I never thought I could. She has no problem transferring all of her brainpower to my sisters and myself before tests, running out last minute to make sure we’re fully stocked with Ticonderoga pencils, and she is never lacking in creative ideas for projects. My mother is someone that I will always look up to, always treasure as a friend, and someone that I respect more than anyone else in the world. I am truly blessed to have such a great mom.

My sisters and I realize that when she tells us to suck it up when we scrape our knee, that she’s only making us tougher. We know that she loves us despite how many times we ask her if the angel is made out of glass or when we track dog poop through the house for the 20th time. We know that if something were wrong, she’d be the first to be by our side and the last to leave. My mom will always be my biggest fan, and she has raised three pretty decent girls that will always know that they have a lot to live up to.

We're not sure why our Dad puts up with us.

Thank you mom for all that you do and all that you are. Happy Mother’s Day!
